Gunung Datuk 18 Mar 2007

The response to climb Gunung Datuk was exceptionally good. About 9.45 a.m. after a short registration exercise, we embarked on our climb at 105m elevation. The initial few minutes of gentle slope gave way to an hour of steep climb. Inevitably, we had to rely on our arm muscles to haul ourselves up. We reached the midpoint campsite 10.30 a.m. Thereafter, the upward trail was more gradual ala Gasing. We reached the final campsite @ elevation 700m at 12 noon. Thereafter, we had to take turn to climb up 2 flights of ladder to scale gigantic boulders to reach the viewing site @ 750m. Apparently, many people, including us, were clueless about the trail to real peak which was reported to be about 870m. The view was a bit disappointing because of the hazy weather.

Bukit Tabur 11 Mar 2007

The big orange sun has arisen over the horizon at 7.30 a.m. and we were just on the road to Melawati. When we reached the foothill it was already 8 a.m. and we could feel the heat burning through our blouses. Notwithstanding the bright hot day, we try to take some photos to commemorate my 5th climb.

Raptor in Kiara 9 Mar 2007

Crested Serpent Eagle

The recent Raptor Watch event reminded me of a raptor at TTDI Kiara Park. So I went to the Park 12.30 p.m. because it only comes out at 12 noon for its meal. I was very lucky to be able to catch several shots of it catching and eating its prey. I believe it has a partner… but was only able to sight one.

Gunung Ledang 24-25 Feb 2007

On 24 February 2007 joined 15 hikers to scale Gunung Ledang via the Sagil trail (from Tangkak). We camped at CP5 Sungei Segitiga (666m) and trekked up the summit (1267m) the following morning to catch the sunrise and return home on the same day. A very challenging trek with lots of ladders and ropes along a very interesting scenic trail…a worthwhile trip.

Sg Chiling Waterfall 4 Feb 2007

Decided to chill out at Sg Chilling waterfall given the long spell of hot weather. Trek time taken was only an hour to the Lower Fall and another 5 minutes to the Upper Fall. Noted that changing facilities and a bridge for the first river crossing were being built. No rubbish in sight and the area was well maintained.

Kem Pacat (aka Leech Camp) 1 Feb 2007

We started at 9 a.m. from the base Resort (200m) and arrived at Kem Lolo (555m) 2 hours later, at 11 a.m. After lunch and having rested enough we made an impromptu decision to trek to Kem Pacat (1045m). We started off 1 p.m. and arrived at 2.30 p.m. after trekking for 11/2 hours. We proceeded our downhill trek at 3.00 p.m. and arrived at Kem Lolo at 4.00 p.m. After a feast of fruit, we trekked back to the Base Resort at 4.25 p.m. and arrived at 5.50 p.m. (11/2 hrs). A very satisfying trek... the weather was favourable and the trail was dry.
