Bukit Saga 8 Mar 2009

Given the perpetual bad weather and afternoon rain, we decided to go for a short hike up Bukit Saga in Ampang area. As expected the super steep trail was wet and muddy. It took us about 50 minutes to hit the rest area near the peak, which was pleasantly shady and dry, probably due to the good drainage. The place has been turned into a playground for both kids and adults and is literally litter free.

After spending more than an hour "lepaking" around, we made our descent downhill within 30 minutes. Pictures of earlier trips can be viewed at http://happytrekker.shutterfly.com/pictures/5348.

Upper APS Waterfall 1 Mar 2009

In view of the wet weather, a group of us decided to opt for a half day hike to Ah Pak San waterfall. Starting at 9 a.m. from Jalan Awana 23, we made our way up the muddy and slippery trail to the highest station 5 (about 400m asl) at 10.40 a.m. Following the signboard, we took the right turn to the waterfall. After about 20 minutes, we came across a Y-junction where we took the left trail. The next 10 minutes, we saw ourselves inching slowly down the super slippery slope by holding onto branches and trunks as well rattans. Well! It was a pleasant surprise when we discovered that we had landed at the Upper APS Waterfall (dubbed the Wow-Wow Waterfall). The small resting area near the waterfall was quite tidy and neat. A few of us enjoyed a good massage from the strong waterflow.

We were told that to get to the original Lower APS Waterfall (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2007/04/ah-pak-san-waterfall-8407_8.html) one would need to follow the right trail at the Y-junction.

After 'lepaking' for more than an hour at the waterfall, we made our way home at 12.30 p.m. and reached the base at 2 p.m. Total distance covered was 8.1 km per the GPS reading of a group member.

Bukit Tabur Barat 22 Feb 2009

Starting at 7 a.m. from 150m asl, 7 of us trooped up Bukit Tabur to catch the sunrise. Since the last visit in August 2008 (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2008/08/bukit-tabur-west-1682008_17.html), the trail now appeared much wider and eroded but still pleasantly neat and free of litter. Notwithstanding the rain the night before, but the terrain was dry and easy to trek.

As expected, we saw a thick sea of mist hovering over the Dam Lake. We stopped intermittently to admire and photograph the beautiful sea of mist and moving slowly against the orange sky backdrop over the East Tabur Ridge and settling down and disappearing over the Melawati residential area.

By 8 a.m. the ridge was crowded with many hikers, young and old, signifying the popularity of the trail. We hit the highest ridge 490m asl on the last hump at 10.30 a.m. It was about 12 noon when we reached the base via the kebun after an hour of downhill trek.

Below is a series of selected photographs of the trek arranged in chronological order.

Gunung Datuk 14 Feb 2009

We left PJ at 6.45 a.m., reached Pedas Toll at 8 a.m. and finally at the G Datuk Park at 8.45 a.m. with about 15 minutes break to buy some food along the way. There was no big crowd and there was plenty of car park area.

At 9 a.m. we started our hike at 120m asl and reached the false peak clearing at 725m asl at 11 a.m. After s short rest, we climbed up several flights of the metal ladder to the viewing point at 740m asl atop gargantuan boulders.

The weather was beautiful and we have a wonderful time sun bathing on the boulders. The trail was dry and easy to trek. It must be "Spring time" in Gunung Datuk. The trail was adorned with blooming pink and yellow inflorescence flowers.

We started to take our leave at 1 p.m. and reached the base at 2.20 p.m. where we had a short splash in a mini waterfall pool. Overall, a fun and good moderate day trek.
