Sg Chilling 24 Jul 2011

The last trip was on 7 March 2010 (see http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2010/03/sg-chiling-732010.html)

For this weekend, we decided to go for an easy waterfall trek at Sg Chilling, now known as Ikan Santuari Sungei Chilling. Starting at 9.45 a.m., we took a relaxing trek of 11/4 hours to reach the waterfall at 11.07 a.m. The river crossings were easy. The water level was low owing to the recent dry spell. As usual, there was a good crowd of over 100 people.

We left the waterfall at 1.30 p.m. There was a slight drizzle by the time we left the Santuary at 2.40 p.m.

Overall, it was a easy relaxing trek for touching base with trekking buddies, namely Elsie, Sarah, Wai Chin, Ong, Christina, Engu, Poh Lian, Tam and Yeoh meeting new buddies, namely Jansen, Yvonne and Tong.

Gunung Angsi 16 Jul 2011

This is my 11th Angsi Trek. My last trek was on 10.10.10 (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2010/10/g-angsi-10-10-10.html).

Starting at 7 a.m. from Petaling Jaya, we reached the Senawang Toll in good time at 8 a.m. There was a slight drizzle and the weather did not look very promising. So we decided to do a quick trek up to Gunung Angsi via Bukit Putus instead of Ulu Bendul. We took about 2 hrs and 45 minutes to hit the peak at 11.45 a.m. There was no crowd and the weather was balmy warm. We took time to soak in the fresh air and tranquil surrounding.

At the peak, we decided to trek down to Ulu Bendul instead of back trekking to Bukit Putus when we saw no rain clouds. The trail to Ulu Bendul was rather steep and rough. About 30 minutes from the peak, we had to use ropes to navigate through a very dangerous ravine devoid of vegetation known as Botak hill. The last part of the Botak Hill was a real thriller. We had to use two ropes guide ourselves down the sandy slope. The ropes were anchored at 12 o’ clock on a loose tree stump. A hiker joked that an overweight trekker must have uprooted the tree stump from the ground. To secure the loose tree stump, there were additional ropes were tied to the tree stump in three other directions, namely 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. We took about 10 minutes to get over this challenging section. Thereafter, the trail continued steeply until after two river crossings when it started to level off.

It was 3.40 p.m. when we reached Ulu Bendul Main Entrance and none of us was looking forward to trekking 3 km along the road to our vehicles at Bukit Putus. Luckily, we encountered a kind hearted couple who gave two of us a lift to Bukit Putus, 3 km away, to collect our cars. Thank you very much to the driver of NAY 1296.

Overall, it was a great trekking day in the company of cheerful and photogenic buddies, namely Christina, Sau Chein, Hah and Poh Lian.

Gunung Nuang Pacat 9 Jul 2011

The journey to G Nuang Park from PJ was a breeze despite the traffic lockdown by the Police in connection with the Bersih Rally. We reached there at 9 a.m. and started trekking at 9.10 a.m. after paying RM1 entrance fee. Generally, the facilities at the Park were well maintained. The gazebos along the trail were however badly run down with missing signage. See last trip in April 2011 (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2011/04/kem-pacat-g-nuang-342011.html).

The weather did not look promising but we decided to proceed with the trek. Fortunately, there was no rain. We hit Pacat Camp at 12.50 p.m. where we had a good rest before proceeding downhill at 2 p.m. It was about 4.50 p.m. when we reached the base.

Below is a series of photos of activities, flora and fauna taken during the trek. Trekking buddies included Yeoh, Ong, Charis, Samuel, Christina, M P Chin, Lai Cheng, Sarah and Victor
