Gunung Angsi 15 Apr 2012

This would be my twelfth Angsi trek. The last trek was on 16.7.2011 (see http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2011/07/gunung-angsi-1672011.html).

We started late at 10.45 a.m. and took a leisurely trek to the summit with lots of photography breaks along the trail. From Panjang site, we took the original trail via Pang’s site to the summit and returned via the Panjang trail.

The weather was good that day with slight breeze. Unfortunately, it was not a season for mushroom for the trail was quite dry. We took time to touch base with members of the Angsi trekkers also.

Trekking buddies included: Elsie, Lai Cheng, Victor, Cheah Seiw Khoon, Christina Goh, Christina Cheah, Chew Poh Lian, Lim and David Lim.

Gunung Angsi 13 Feb 2011

The last trip was on 10.10.10 (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2010/10/g-angsi-10-10-10.html). Leaving PJ at about 7.30 a.m., we took slightly more than an hour to reach the trail head, now renamed as Bukit Putus Base camp.

The weather was pleasantly breezy and and the hike was pretty monotonous with the usual flora and fauna. From CP1, now known as Panjang Rest & Rescue Centre (PRRC), we took the original challenging trail over 2 hills to reach the G Angsi peak at 12 noon and later returned via the easier hillside Panjang Trail.

It was amusing to note that regular trekkers had put red lanterns and decorations at PRRC to welcome CNY. As usual, returning trekkers congregated at PRRC to savour the tongsui prepared by Chairman Koh Loh and CNY goodies sponsored by trekkers.

We returned to the base camp at about 2.45 p.m. and stopped over at Nasi Ayam Gemas for hi-tea enroute home.

Overall, it was a good workout with trekking buddies Horng Yih, Yeoh, Lai Cheng, Mee Hong, Ling Ji Yang, Wong Siew Fan, Chen Soo Kien and Yap K M.

Gunung Angsi 10 Oct 2010

This is my 9th trip to Gunung Angsi. My last trip was on 25 April 2010 (see http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2010/04/g-angsi-25-april-2010.html).

Leaving PJ at 7.45 a.m. we reached Bukit Putus trail head at about 9.15 a.m. including a pit stop at Seremban Jaya for breakfast. The road landscape from Senawang Toll towards Bukit Putus has changed dramatically. One needs to be alert! After exiting from Senawang Toll, we came upon a huge cross junction after travelling about 10 minutes. This cross junction has replaced the old T junction with the left road leading to Seremban and the opposite new Lekas road to K Pilah. We took the right turn to Bukit Putus (old Kuala Pilah road).

We took about 2.5 hrs to hit the peak and 2 hrs to return to trail head. The trek was uneventful but the weather was beautifully conducive – breezy and cool. There were hardly any mushrooms as the trail was dry. But ginger plants and flowers were plentiful. Going up, we met a man carrying a huge plastic load of rubbish downhill. Kudos to him for cleaning up rubbish left by the campers!

On our way home, we stopped by the first campsite and helped ourselves with the free tongsui, courtesy of Koh Loh. The tongsui was tasty and fragrant with ginger for sweet potato tongsui and dried mandarin orange peal for green bean tongsui. In appreciation of Koh Loh’s contribution, earlier we have donated 1 kg of red beans and 1 kg of sugar.

Overall, it was a good energetic and pleasant trek.

Trekking buddies were Christina and Engu. At the peak we had a chance to touch base with trekker friends, namely Wun and Helen.

Gunung Angsi 25 Apr 2010

The last hike to G Angsi was in May 2009 (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2009/05/gunung-angsi-24-may-09_25.html).

After Senawang, the drive to Bukit Putus trunk road was a breeze without a single motor vehicle in sight. From the head trail, we could look down and watch vehicles tearing down the newly constructed Seremban- Kuala Pilah highway which runs almost parallel to the old trunk road. Hopefully, the local authorities would continue to maintain the trunk road.

Starting at 8.40 a.m. we took a slow trek to fully enjoy the beautiful windy weather and the forest,"fresh" and "alive" possibly due to a heavy rainfall the night before. We noted that someone has thoughtfully put up signboards for the direction to G Angsi (using the easy route) as well as areas of interest. We hit the peak close to 12 noon after 3 hours trek.

After a good rest and refreshment, we descended at 1 pm and arrived at the base at 2.40 p.m.

Trekking buddies are Choo, Janice, Wai Chin, Ong & Yeoh.

Gunung Angsi 24 May 2009

My last G Angsi trek via Bukit Putus on 21 March 2009 (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2009/03/gunung-angsi-21-march-2009_22.html) was a wet affair. This time round, the weather was surprisingly cool and breezy during our ascent to the peak. The trail was dry and easy to trek. Of course no exotic mushrooms were in sight given the dry spell. However, we were rewarded with sights of beautiful forest creatures such as a giant millipede, a viper, a spiky caterpillar, a huge aphid (I think), a spiny spider, a green cicada and beautiful butterflies.

For this trip, we took the regular straight trail up to the summit via CP1 and CP2 and returned via the 2 side trails which bypass a hill and CP2. Starting at 8.35 a.m. @ 364 m a.s.l. we hit CP1 (530m a.s.l.) @ 9.20 a.m. From here, we took the straight uphill path (instead of the right trail which would go round the hill and bypass CP2) and reached CP2 (696m a.s.l.) @ 9.55 a.m. From CP2, we have to make a descent before climbing up another hill. After passing 3 Y-junctions and keeping to all the left trails, we arrived at the peak (873m a.s.l.) @ 11.25 a.m.

After a good rest and refreshment, we started our descent @ 12.30 p.m. and reached the base at 2.45 p.m. with about 15 minutes break at CP1 to savour the green pea tong sui prepared by the regular Angsi hikers.

Overall, a lovely relaxing hike.

Gunung Angsi 21 Mar 2009

The last visit to G Angsi via Bukit Putus was on 23.9.2007 (http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2007/09/g-angsi-2392007_23.html). The forestry department has apparently erected new signboards and presumably, cleared the trail and planted tree saplings along the trail. Starting at 9.05 a.m. we took a leisurely hike to enjoy the flora, notably the fungi and mushrooms of various sizes and colours. We took about 50 minutes to reach Campsite 1 and another 45 minutes to Campsite 2 before hitting the peak 1½ hour later at 12.20 p.m. The weather was beautifully windy and cloudy.

On return hike we decided to be adventurous and took a left turn at the second Y junction. This trail, which circumvents the slope of Campsite 2 hill, is relatively flat and merges with the original trail at Campsite 1. We believe the trail, which is now overgrown with shrubs and ferns, is the remnant of an old logging trail. There was minimum tree canopy and it was certainly hot to trek in the afternoon sun.

We took about 2 hours to return to trailhead from the peak.

Gunung Angsi 9 Mar 2008

This is my 5th climb up G Angsi. Pictures of my earlier climbs can be found at:

http://happyotrekker.blogspot.com/2007/02/gunung-angsi-on-1122007_11.html.

Observed that the highway running next to the trunk road is almost ready. Apart from the highly eroded trail head, the trail remains a pleasant place to trek. The weather was wonderfully windy and cloudy. This time round, we sighted pitcher plants and different coloured berries while mushrooms were noticeably missing.

Gunung Angsi 23 Sep 2007

Starting at an elevation of about 200m, we took 2 hours to hike up to the Summit (825m) via Bukit Putus way and 1hr 40 mins for our return trek. This time round, there was hardly any fungi, compared to the last trip on 5 August 2007  given the recent dry spell. Overall, it was a goodwork out and managed to touch base with many trekker friends at the Summit.
